One down, two to go!

One daughter has graduated from homeschool! We actually had a graduation ceremony for her (around 50 attended!) and our youth pastor was her commencement speaker. It doesn't take long to graduate one person so it was fairly quick. Then we went on to the party! We had several friends come from out of town as well as family so she got to visit with lots of people. Everyone seemed to have a good time, and cousins on one side were able to play with cousins on the other side. Some of my family hadn't seen my DH's family since we got married!

Afterwards family members still in town came to our house and we watched daughter open graduation cards and gifts. She got lots of purple stuff (her favorite color). I hope her college roommate likes purple too!

Two more to go now! :-)

My blogger daughter doesn't like the name of my blog. [sigh] I thought it fit perfectly. Well...... maybe it was a good start?? :-) Any suggestions??

Welfare state?

That's what someone called the U.S. today on the radio. He mentioned that defense allocations took up about 40% of the federal budget during the cold war build-up (in the 50s) and "entitlements" far less. (I think I remember the figures.) Now entitlements (or welfare) take up the majority of the budget, passing up defense even though our military is involved in Iraq! Medicare and Medicaid take up a good portion of the entitlements or welfare payments. Unfortunately, I'd have to agree. Too many people are dependent on the government and I think welfare state is pretty accurate. The work ethic in the U.S. has gone downhill to such a degree that a lot of people don't want to earn a living but would rather have it handed to them! Folks need to take responsibility for themselves!

I highly recommend my daughter!

I know what you're thinking - "of course you do, she's your daughter!" Actually as her homeschool teacher, I tend to be harder on her than others would. So when I filled out a reference for college, I tried to be honest, but I still highly recommend her for the group she wants to join. We'll see how far a mother's reference goes!

My very own blog!

I've joined the online blogging crowd now - I've got my own blog! I'm not really sure why, but a new adventure is always fun! :-)
